Build if your call logic is unusual, your integrations do not exist off the shelf, compliance requires control of the data path, or per-minute pricing stops working at your volume. Which platform do you build on, Vapi or Retell?

Both, plus ElevenLabs for voice. The choice depends on your telephony setup, latency requirements and how much control you need over the turn-taking logic. We are not resellers for either, so the recommendation is driven by your constraints rather than by a partner agreement.

Can an AI voice agent be HIPAA compliant?

The architecture can be, and ours is built for it. We have BAAs in place with AWS and OpenAI, and we design the call path so PHI is handled correctly end to end. Compliance is a property of the whole system including your processes, not something a vendor can grant you on its own.

How is this different from an IVR?

Accepted Answer

An IVR routes on menu choices you defined in advance. A voice agent understands what the caller said, asks follow-up questions, and completes the task. The practical difference callers notice is not needing to know which menu option their problem falls under.
